Background
The first state-wide physical activity campaign in WA, Find Thirty. It's not a big exercise® was developed in 2002. The new Find Thirty® every day campaign builds on the successes of Find Thirty. It's not a big exercise® to refresh the campaign and take it in a new direction in 2008.
Rationale
In 2006, only 59 per cent of West Australian adults were sufficiently active for good health. Twenty-nine per cent were insufficiently active, and 12 per cent of West Australians did not participate in any physical activity at all.
Physical inactivity is the fourth leading contributor (6.6 per cent) to the overall burden of disease in Australia. The direct health care costs of the contribution of physical inactivity to coronary heart disease, breast cancer, colon cancer, stroke, depression, type two diabetes and falls equates to $1.5 billion in Australia each year.
Aim
To increase the number of West Australian adults who are sufficiently active for good health.
Objectives
- To increase awareness of the type and frequency of physical activity required for good health.
The National Physical Activity Guidelines for Adults: recommend at least thirty minutes of moderate intensity physical activity on most, preferably all, days. (

- To increase awareness of the specific benefits of physical activity in relation to chronic disease and general health.
Physical activity provides an important range of physical, mental and social health benefits. View more information on the benefits of physical activity.
- To demonstrate how people who are insufficiently active can overcome perceived barriers to participation in physical activity.
Evidence indicates that perceived lack of time is still the main barrier to being more active.
- To congratulate people who are already active.
People move in and out of physical activity over time. Encouraging active people to continue is important.
